Everyone was super friendly. Appointment was right on time and everything moved like clockwork – no waiting and shuffling between different pieces of equipment and procedures. I was impressed with the thoroughness and knowledge of the doctors and staff.
I was very impressed from the moment I stepped in the door. There was a very small wait and one of the staff came in line to let me start the paperwork. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. They use the best/most up to date technology and everything ran like a well oiled machine. Dr. Mitchell was easy to talk to and answered every question I had with sincerity. I am very happy with my visit and decision to switch here!
I was really impressed by the exam I received at Blacksburg Eye Associates. The doctors are always patient and caring, taking the time needed to explain things and never rushing the process. The lady in Optical was great, she showed me the new Maui Jim glasses (not sunglasses) and how they are the only place in the area that carries this line. I ended up getting a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses during the visit as well. I have been in glasses/contacts most of my life and have been to many places in the past and no place comes close to being as awesome as Blacksburg Eye.
We have noticed increased attention at school, improved handwriting, and a significant improvement in his grades.
It is amazing how much more energy our son has after school!

This patient had scarring and a wound that wouldn’t heal from an infection. After spending 3-4 months between different doctors trying to get treatment, they were nearly going to send her for surgery at Duke.
Before that happened, she came to see Dr Dovie, and we were able to get things stable, referred her to Dr. Melchione who put a scleral lens on her, and, well, her review says it all.

It has been a pleasure working with Dr. Dovie and the staff at Blacksburg Eye Associates for the past 6 months. School was extremely challenging for my son and we were desperate for ways to help him. My husband and I decided to have him tested by an Educational Psychologist and she recommended additional testing by an eye doctor in order to rule out any problems with vision and tracking. My son went through vision testing with Dr. Dovie 6 months ago and we decided that he was a good candidate for vision therapy. For as long as I can remember, I had concerns about my son’s vision. As a preschooler, he frequently hesitated when stepping off curbs and steps. He always suffered from headaches but they worsened once kindergarten started. In second grade, we began noticing that he was resistant to reading on his own and out loud (though he loved being read to). When he did read to us, he often lost his place and skipped words. We brought him in for a vision assessment with Dr. Dovie. He discovered that our son’s eyes worked well on their own, but struggled to work as a team. He recommended vision therapy services. The progress made during those 12 weeks of therapy is astounding! Our son jumped 5 reading levels from the end of second grade to the start of third grade! He loves to read now and will often read 2-3 chapter books a week. He also scored 3 soccer goals this past season…. Something that has never happened. I cannot recommend Dr. Dovie and his team enough!
It is my great pleasure to tell you about the progress I have seen in <name removed> since her therapy began with Blacksburg Eye Associates/Vision Plus.
She is more confident in her own abilities. She reads and processes at a much quicker rate. Her grades on reading assignments average from 90-100%. Her class average for the 1st quarter of school was an 89/B. She is currently averaging a 98/A for the 2nd quarter of school.
<Name> volunteers to read aloud now, and she is willing to answer questions out loud. She is an overall enthusiastic student, and I believe the strategies she has learned in her time at Blacksburg Eye Associates/Vision Plus have aided in this confidence and enthusiasm.

The vision rehab process helped me a lot with both my vision capabilities and reading. I had suffered a concussion over a year before and hadn’t noticed the issues with my eyes until a couple months ago. My head stated to feel weird when my eyes moved around a lot and there were a lot of distractions that made my eyes struggle to focus. So, at my eye exam I told the doctor about the things I had been noticing. I took some tests, and we came to the conclusion that it was a residual effect from my concussion. I was then referred to the vision rehab program and I worked with Seth and Ashley for 6 weeks with two sessions a week. The exercises were sometimes difficult but most of them were really fun and incorporated my sport into it. Through all my work, I came out at the end with my symptoms minimized and doubling my testing scores. I’m so grateful to Seth and Ashley for all their hard work and how much they’ve helped me. This process really works, and my experience helps to show that.
I love Ashley and Seth! I found out I had eye tracking issues due to several concussions I sustained when I was younger. My eye issues were making studying and reading more difficult and causing headaches. Ashley and Seth planned specific eye exercises and therapy based on my condition. They made therapy lots of fun and I enjoyed every one of my sessions! Now my eyes are tracking better than ever and reading has never been easier. I am very grateful for their dedication and support and making therapy so much fun!
It all started with our daughter falling behind in school, having headaches after short reading sessions, and her lack of confidence in reading aloud. Her teachers felt something was going on with her vision, and recommend we get it checked out. As you can imagine, we feared the worst, and were deeply concerned. We met with Dr. Dovie and his amazing staff and they eased our fears and concerns and explained the process. It was like a weight had been lifted and we were encouraged as to the possibilities of our daughter's sight getting back to normal. We gained an understanding of the treatment plan along with the expectations of our daughter's ability to regain her reading ability and her confidence. The exercises and vision therapy that our daughter performed at home along with the periodic visits with Dr. Dovie enabled her to get back to normal, and for that we are grateful. Will never forget her final examination and completion of the therapy which allowed her to get back to reading without headaches and improve in school.
